Gerri Watkins, the founder of Project Floor 29, started this nonprofit because of her own experiences and the experiences of those close to her. Domestic violence has touched her life in profound ways—her mother, sister, friends, and other family members, both men and women, have all suffered from abuse. This cause is deeply personal to her.
On August 8, 2021, Gerri’s life changed forever when she was attacked by her long-term boyfriend. The assault left her in the hospital with slight bleeding on her brain. During this abusive relationship, Gerri found a brief escape when she took a trip with a friend, staying on the 29th floor of a luxury retreat. It was there, on that 29th floor, that she felt a rare moment of freedom and elevation, a stark contrast to the life she had to return to. After the incident, she remembers feeling so ugly—both inside and out.
It’s these experiences that fuel her passion for helping others through Project Floor 29. Gerri wants to provide the same sense of elevation and hope she once felt, giving others the chance to rebuild their lives and rediscover their inner and outer beauty.
